Satya Nadella delivers Microsoft State of Security address

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella delivered a message at the Microsoft Government Cloud Forum in Washington DC this past Tuesday, stating Windows’ new security system is the safest operating system on the market.

During his keynote presentation, he touched on features such as Windows Hello facial recognition software and Device Guard as reasons why Windows is at the top when it comes to fighting security threats. Microsoft always prioritizes their customers’ safety over all, using their unique insight to determine the many different types of threats that are present in the virtual world.

Microsoft claims to spend over $1 billion every year on security measures that protect themselves and their customers. The company will spend a big chunk of change to open a new Cyber Defense Operation Center at its Redmond, Washington headquarters. This site will include security teams for Xbox, Windows, and the Azure cloud platform.

One of the standout features will be the intelligence security graph that they have created just for this purpose. The graph brings in the masses of security-related data from Microsoft’s customers on a daily basis. The number of things they have to keep track of are staggering - 200 billion emails per month, 300 billion unique logins per month, and one billion Windows updates every month. All of these are checked for malware and other harmful threats. Their unique attack vectors ensure it will be safe by the time it gets to the user. It will allow people to connect the dots in real-time, Nadella said.

These measures of heightened security mark a big turning point for Microsoft. It was always known as the easiest and most vulnerable target for hackers -partly because it is the most used OS in the world. Nadella and his team have taken big steps in ensuring Microsoft will be a fortress from here on out.
