Ford Puts Apple’s Siri Eyes-Free in Cars via Sync

Ford Motor Company is teaming with Apple to create a safer and more convenient way to drive by installing Siri into their vehicles.

We’ve heard of the term “hands-free device”, and Siri’s “Eyes-free” device will go hand in hand with that, so to speak. Owners of Ford vehicles purchased in 2011 or later will be able to download a software update that adds this to their SYNC interface. The main focus is to keep the driver’s focus on the road, keeping their fingers away from a potentially distracting touchscreen.

With Siri installed in the car, users can take advantage of the voice recognition software to make a call, access their address book, set a reminder, check the weather, play music, send text messages, have them read out, look up locations, and get directions through Apple Maps. Plenty of cars have a similar voice-activated interface to use on command, but Ford believes Siri will be the most helpful to drivers since it’s a software system many people are already familiar with.

Paired with SYNC, it will make it easy on customers to get updates for the system.
